Showcase / Klingon Bird of Prey 1/2500
« on: June 02, 2018, 06:04:15 AM »
So it isn't technically a mecha but I figure it's close enough.

A favorite of mine since child hood. Quick little build, but it gave me some problems. AMT models are an entirely different beast compared to the precision of Bandi kits. But over all I'm rather happy with this guy.

Feedback appreciated.

So it's been awhile since I posted anything of note here. I haven't been slacking I've just been more focused on painting miniatures than model kits. But I recently picked up a few Star Trek kits I had once had as a kid, and decided to try my hand at them now that I have some skill. Now this isn't a giant robot but I figure it's close enough to a mecha to count.

It's a small kit and it's apparent that Bandi kits have spoiled me.

It went together well enough.

But there are some problems with the kit. Mainly these huge holes through the kit.

so I decided I needed to modify the kit a bit. Added a bit ribbed styrene to cover the holes in the front.

Now just I just need to figure out how I'm going to close up the holes in the back.

Not the usual fare but I think it fits the mecha theme.

I've been on a miniature kick and building a lot of Games Workshop models recently but this one I feel fits well enough to post here. A friend got these for me over a year ago. I fell in love with the retro feel when I first saw them. Made a few mistakes but learned a lot on this build.

Painted mostly with Army Painter paints and a few Vallejo paints.

Showcase / HGUC 1/144 GM Type C "Heavy Waepon Refit"
« on: September 11, 2017, 09:49:06 AM »
All right finally done, and up on the wire. I give you my GM Type C Heavy Weapon Refit. I'm fairly happy with it, I could have done more but the Deadline crept up on me and I had trouble fighting procrastination. Went with a fairly simple color scheme (Unfortunately a bit of the detail is washed out in the pictures) toyed some different painting techniques with this build not all successful. I'm happy with the mods I've done. Mostly I'm just happy to get this project finished. Hope you all like it.

I built this over a year ago now if not a bit more, looking at it now it's a bit sloppy but one of my first kit-bash/scratch-builds I'm still happy with it. This bridges two of my hobbies Gunpla and Custom miniatures. I used a Petit guy as a base for some powered armor as well as a few other model bits and a toothpick of all things.

Had some fun with these. Had the idea what would happen if Ball pilots where left alone for far too long with no oversight. Came up with this duo.

Getting used to a new camera at the moment, and I'm still having problems with the light washing out my preshading. It may be time to invest in a photo tent.

Entries & WIPs / HG GM Type C
« on: April 16, 2017, 08:07:55 AM »
After some deliberation I've finally settled on a GM Type C as my base.

My Entry into ZakuAurelius' Custom Zaku Contest. Cut it close with this, Took longer than expected to finish But I'm more than happy with the results.

I used a Zaku II High Mobility Type as a base and it is my third fully painted kit and the first time I've used watersides. I settled on a semi fixed pose for this kit due mainly to my paranoia about scratching paint. I added a single Vulcan cannon to the head, modified the backpack adding large thrusters and propellant tanks. Added Missile pods to the shoulder shields. Seeing as I gave the Suit two anti-ship rifles I had to build a second trigger-finger hand as well as swap the scope on one of the rifles. I also decided the standard clips of the Anti-ship rifle was to small so I added drum clips.  I also added a few metal detail parts to the back of the legs, not to noticeable but I like them.

The kit is primed in a both model master enamel and acrylic primers, and painted in army painter colors.

Works in Progress / HG RB-79 Custom Ball twin set
« on: February 23, 2017, 07:02:50 AM »
After building The MG ball Ver. Ka I wanted another quick project. I got the Idea for a team of veteran Ball pilots, perhaps given a bit too much freedom to customize there Pods.

For the first one I decided to take it in an odd direction and build a melee specialist.
Rebuilt the backpack reasoning a melee specialist would need more thrust and maneuverability.

I also decided both options for weapons felt to big for a melee specialized pod so I instead cut down the cannon mount and added this pistol from a build fighter kit I ad laying around.

as the final modification I decided A Ball lacked armor so I added a GM's shield.

Next is the simpler of the two, A ranged specialist.
Essentially I built a Ball with the fire power of three. And added an extra engine from a guntank early type.

I decided to not use the arms and add well more guns, still working on fitting these into the arm mounts.

My second fully painted kit. I painted this one up as a quick project to cut my teeth on. Well I learned a lot. I'm fairly happy with it considering all the problems I had with it, Almost all my own fault. I did some preshading but It proved to subtle to show up in the pictures. Painted almost entirely with acrylic paints (Army painter and Vallejo). The kit itself was a fun build, and I have to say I like the redesign from the original.

Showcase / After The War- 1/144 GM Diorama
« on: January 26, 2017, 06:19:56 AM »
Soldier return to find those left in the wake of war find uses for it's relics even in times of peace.

Several firsts for me here. My first Diorama, My first fully panted Kit and some new weathering techniques as well. I am very happy with this especially for my first attempt. The shack is 100% scratch built by me and my first attempt to make a building. I also built a basic seat for the cockpit as it was far too empty without it. I modified the GM in several ways opening the cockpit tearing up the limbs and such. I also tied a new weathering technique to get some nice scoring and melted effects.

Works in Progress / Powered Suite Phase Two
« on: January 01, 2017, 04:07:26 PM »
So I decided to start on a non gunpla kit. Found this awhile ago at a hobby shop and decided to tackle it.

Still in the construction phase and man this is a different beast than a Bandi kit. Almost primitive. So far there ar some minor fitting issues and the polly caps are stupidly tight.

Showcase / 1/144 HG Ez8
« on: December 27, 2016, 08:27:28 AM »
One of my favorite mobile suits. The Ez8 from 8th MS Team. Did a bit of modification to the suite, adding metallic details to the shoulders as well as narrowed the bars. Also added a scratch built Chaff launcher and sensor unit to the chest. Unfortunately the elbow joint on the left arm failed as I was posing it. I can still wedge it into place and on the up side I can now emulate the scenes where the suits is missing the left arm so not a total loss. I repainted the shield and ammo packs to corrected the color to be more anime accurate. As well as painting the backpack rack and parachute pack as well as the machine gun. Over all I'm rather happy with how this turned out.

Alright so I just finished my Gouf custom so I decided to move onto another mobile suit from 8th MS team. The Titular Ez8. Do to my ADD I did start this before completing the Gouf. Snapping it up went quick and was a fun build good articulation and I was happily surprised that there was detail under the chest armor. All in all a good kit. But I felt there was room for improvement and so I've decided to do some modifications.

First I decided to modify the shoulder armor. Still needs work but a good start I think.

Next I opened up the connections on the chest armor.

Picked this Kit up awhile ago. It was a fun build and I decided to do some minor modifications, added some metal details to the shoulder armor and vent details to the knee armor. Also did a bit of painting, not the whole kit but some metallic apps and the black parts of the armor. Tried to do a little less weathering then I usually do and tried a splattering effect. Rather happy with this one.
