Showcase / Bandai Digimon Reboot Omegamon
« on: December 27, 2017, 03:25:57 AM »
Finally finished this one up the other weekend. Lot of work needed on this one, but it all paid off in the end. Only got lazy with the shoulder and didn't remove the seam and I really wish I would have done that little detail looking back. Oh well.

Unless you really like the source material, I cannot recommend this one. Also, until it gets another reprint its going to be hard to find and/or $100+ on eBay. I managed to find it quite a bit cheaper and really enjoy Digimon so I'm alright with it. :D

Here's kind-of an unboxing. Lots of stickers and very rough looking. The orange was weird, almost has a gloss-injection look to it. But at least Bandai had good sense to mold all the details.

The finished product.

Works in Progress / MG GM Sniper II
« on: December 19, 2017, 01:27:22 AM »
Thought I'd start sharing my WIP for the GM Sniper II. This was my prize from the GM/Zaku contest (thanks again!).
So far, just kind of going for a more detailed look. What really kicked this project off was the HAF Series (3rd-Party) rifles I found, and will be using one of them with this kit.

Began attempting some scribing, just on the large blank spaces. After some trial and error, it turned out okay.

Tried some more scribing on the knees, not successful. Decided to plate some detail on instead.

Added a nifty second camera to the head visor.

And the gun, already mostly painted. As well as scratch-building a shoulder mount and energy tank (very rough atm).

Showcase / HG IBO Gundam Flauros
« on: November 21, 2017, 04:08:32 AM »
Thought I'd share this one. Tried doing some more colour modulation. Really like how it turned out. Flauros is probably my favorite kit out of IBO so far, just so unique.
I also used the option set cannons instead of the original ones (used them on my GM contest entry). I kind of like the look of these more, but shelling-mode is a little lacking now.
Next I'll be doing the Gusion Rebake Full City in the same style.

Q & A / MG Sinanju Dress-up
« on: October 29, 2017, 01:40:18 AM »
Does anyone have any experience with Sinanju-related dress up kits/metal parts? I'd really like to do something a little special with my Sinanju (though it'll probably still be red) but I have no idea what kits are trust-worthy, or even what is included with some listings.

Are most resin/gk kits just found on ebay? Are there particular makers/designers/companies for these? Can anyone flat-out recommend me a kit?
I wouldn't even mind just a metal part upgrade kit as I've never used metal parts in a kit. This looks promising.

Showcase / PG 1/60 Gundam MKII TITANS
« on: September 11, 2017, 01:47:01 AM »
Here's my finished PG MKII. I kept it simple with this one, keeping the OOB colour scheme and reserving metallics for the small details. Tried a mix of colour modulation and simple shading on the armor.
In case any one is wondering, I got the base off of Ebay. There aren't many options for 1/60 bases out there, but I do recommend this one. It doesn't have a whole lot of poses, but its sturdy.

Showcase / Powered GM Gun Cannon Advance (Test Type)
« on: August 27, 2017, 01:07:12 AM »
This is kind of a "what if" scenario of the EFSF on the loosing side of a war. Desperate to create a heavily armored mass-production suit capable of engaging Mobile Armors, R&D took to modifying the Gun Cannon to being capable of sustaining more damage at the cost of mobility while giving it Twin Long-range Rail Cannons. With the addition of Sub Arms, these cannons can convert to a "hip fire" configuration for medium range skirmishes. If necessary, it is also equipped with a small 100mm Machine Gun.

As for the model its self. Did it the GM test colors. Some of the modifications can been seen here, but I kept it pretty tame this time around. The biggest mods were probably cleaning up the backpack by removing the beam saber holder and adding the pistons to the legs. Some light chipping and weathering here as well.

Works in Progress / PG 1/60 Gundam MKII TITANS + 1/60th Stand
« on: August 07, 2017, 07:09:04 PM »
Been a while since I've posted a WIP. Here's my PG MKII so far.
This was my first PG kit so I wanted to keep it simple, "paint by numbers" kind of thing. So no custom modifications or anything, just paint and decals. I did, however, try to do color modulation here. I'm not sure if I did it "right" because it just kind of turned into a base coat, then shadow, then highlights with darker and lighter colors respectively. And that just worked for me and I like how it turned out.

Showcase / RG 1/144 00 Qan[T] Evangelion Color Ver.
« on: May 27, 2017, 07:19:49 PM »
This was just a quick project I wanted to do. Came up with the idea on a whim, and after snapping up the kit found it to fit an Eva quite well.
Pretty straightforward recolor, with the only mods on the head. I wanted to do something with the hands but I didn't have anything on hand to work with. But it worked out alright using the RG hands.

Entries & WIPs / HGUC GM Striker

I'll be entering this lovely GM Striker.

Showcase / HGUC 1/144 Hyaku-Shiki Revive
« on: May 01, 2017, 02:57:39 AM »
To go alongside my Qubeley, here's my Hyaku-Shiki. As previous, just going for a stock coloured, clean kit. Spent a little extra time here doing smaller colour apps. Super happy I found a paint to match the gold I'm familiar with for this suit (Tamiya Titanium Gold). Other than that, pretty simple, quick build.

Showcase / Kotobukiya 1/6 Rokusho (Scissor Head)
« on: April 16, 2017, 04:38:46 AM »
Here's the follow-up to my Metabee, because I can't have just one bot... (more metabots, more...!)
Articulation-wise, this one is leaps better than Metabee. Still has the same crappy poly-cap ball joints but he can bend a whole lot more. Expected I guess, since he is a lot slimmer. However, colour accuracy is pretty awful. I wish I took a before picture, but he was basically all white except for his feet, upper arms, and horns. They did include a clear blue piece for his head though!
This kit also implemented a similar gimmick in the arms as Metabee. However, it was a piss-poor design. The 'buttons' for the arm gimmicks were in the wide open on the top of the fore-arms making a pretty gnarly eye-soar. Also involved quite a bit of work to remove the gaping hole.

End of the day it turned out good and I think it looks pretty awesome. Like before, I'd only buy this if you're a fan of Medabots, otherwise avoid.

Showcase / Kotobukiya 1/6 Metal Beetle (+Review)
« on: March 27, 2017, 12:42:09 AM »
These kits seem pretty obscure (or not liked?) so I thought I'd give it a bit of spotlight. This will probably be more of my thoughts more so than a full review, but lets get into it.

This kit is absolutely full of nostalgia for anyone who knew the original anime. And this is a fairly accurate representation of Metabee. The colours aren't too bad, the yellow-orange is a bit off and the legs and arms are done in white plastic when they should be grey. All this is fairly passable because it still looks good OOB. Plastic quality is what you would expect.

Negatives for this kit start with the seam lines. It may have just been mine but on almost all of them the parts did not match up and left an obvious lip. If you're someone to go the mile and remove seam lines this is probably a moot point, but for someone snapping it together its a bit of an annoyance.

Every (literally every) joint on this kit is a ball-joint. Sounds like a good deal, but the way Kotobukiya engineered it is very strange. All the joints involve sliding a 'ball' poly-cap onto a peg and then its inserted to a plastic socket. So the ball joint tends to wiggle out while posing and also slide off the pegs. The poly-cap material is done in a olive green so it can be very noticeable in some areas.

Articulation is lacking, but looking at the kit you shouldn't expect much. The arms are actually quite good, mostly due to a joint between the elbow and fore-arm. There is a head and waist swivel with some slight tilt. The legs are very limited. They are double-jointed but because of the lower legs they will get about 90 degrees. There is a knee swivel that helps quite a bit. Ankles can rock, and there is a toe bend (also a ball-joint). Overall, possibility is satisfying though it won't be doing any high kicks.

Where this kit shines (aside from looking awesome) is its accessories. It comes with 3 sets of hands; closed fists, grabbing hands, and open hands. They change out easily and attach via peg into poly-cap ball. Next it includes 4 printed face plates; off, neutral, surprised, and confused? These just pop off and on. It also includes rockets and some 'smoke' and 'blast' effect parts. These look especially cool when posed and are probably my favorite part of the kit. They're done in a clear and opaque white.
It also includes some bullets for a shooting mechanic in the right arm and a stand to shoot at. Kind of silly for a model kit so I've mostly left it out.

To wrap up, this is actually a pretty nice kit if you want to put some effort into it or if you're a fan of Medabots. OOB you will probably be disappointed, especially considering its retail of 3200YEN.

All painted up. I think I went a little heavy on the pre-shading, but I'm happy with it. Due to the simplicity of the character there are virtually no panel lines to do. Seam line removal involved a lot of masking. Because of the construction of the legs and shoulders, there was no place to make any sort of cuts to remove the parts from the 'armor.'

Showcase / HG 1/144 Zaku Burst Full Arms (Custom Zaku Contest Entry)
« on: February 20, 2017, 10:38:13 PM »
My Entry for Zach's contest. Super early because I'll be out of town for 2 months after this week.
I used the HG 1/144 The Origin Char's Zaku I as the base. Goal was to try and add-in an IBO Gundam frame to the Zaku, obviously using the Gusion Full City as the donor. Worked fairly well. If I had more time I would have liked to 'complete' the waist a little more, as it is kind of thinner than I wanted it to look.
Scratch built some new joint parts for the legs, and the fuel tanks. Used 1/100 MS Builder parts for the verniers. First shot at pre-shading turned out well, I think. Unfortunately the waterslides I ordered got lost in the mail so I only had stickers to use.

But here it is, the HG 1/144 Zaku Burst Full Arms.

Showcase / HGUC 1/144 Qubeley Revive
« on: January 22, 2017, 11:43:06 PM »
Just a Qubeley in standard colours. I was trying for a high-gloss on the white. Just something about the box art and already glossy-ness of the plastic made me want to do it that way.
This was a kit a year ago I'd never even look at, but after seeing several recommendations I gave it a go and absolutely loved it. So much so I bought the effect set for it. But I won't gush too much about that here. I'd eventually like to get another and paint it as the blue MK-II though.

This was my first kit fully painted with an airbrush, so it was -for me- a bit of experimenting and learning how to actually do all that. Mistakes were made, but it all turned out.
Did a bit of seam-line removal (arms, feet). And also my first attempt at an enamel wash for the panel lines. Lot of firsts here.

If anyone was actually considering picking up the effect set for them selves, these were a huge pain. They don't really hold very well and would constantly fall apart while adjusting. So just be prepared to spend a lot of time to set those up. The base is nice though as it comes with an additional clip to add for stability.

Works in Progress / NG 1/100 Savage Grimgerde
« on: November 12, 2016, 06:47:20 PM »
Hey everyone. This will be my first post on here, and thought I'd share my newest project.
I have been building Gunpla for about 15 years (with loooong breaks) but only recently have I begun painting, modding, etc. And this will be the first kit that I will have ever used an air brush on, eventually. Still waiting for that to come in. Buts here's the PoC.

Just some light mods, to make him look more menacing. Still needs his feet...
Haven't decided on colour yet, open to suggestions though I am leaning toward red still.
