Entries & WIPs / It's a GM
« on: April 11, 2017, 08:19:39 AM »
Well someone had to be first. Might as well be an also ran........

My base kit is the P Bandai MG Powered Gm. I love the bulk of this suit, it looks like it can take some serious shit. For a kit that's based on an older kit the seem lines aren't too bad, the forearms and back of the ankles. The main mod will be the backpack but that won't be all.

Happy building guys I'm really looking forward to seeing what everyone else is entering. Live me some grunt suits.

Ok my latest build. I put it off while I got a few bits organised but I'm ready to start. Going to add a few metal power cables and shoulder spikes. Trying to come up with an alternative for the bin bags around the limb joints, any suggestions welcome, so far all that comes close to working is a washed, dried and coloured baby wipe. This is thin enough to go around the joints but robust enough to not rip. I'm not sticking with standard colours as I'm thinking a veteran suit that has had a refit and nice shinny paint. So far I've denubbed and put all the thrusters and verniers on tape ready to paint, then onto the weapons. Get the tedious jobs out of the way so I can really enjoy the rest of the process. I a few other ideas brewing and I'll post as I get them done.

For now see what took what seemed like days to do.

So so many. Ok a few spares but that's Incase I stuff up some painting

Showcase / Mg Zeta Plus C1
« on: March 12, 2017, 05:20:15 PM »
Hi again guys

My most recent build of the master grade Zeta Plus C1. I didn't stick with cannon colours and I'm fairly happy with how it's turned out. Few little touch ups to do on the chest vents, inner arms and the camera on the back of the head( but who's sees that right?). Used Tamiya , ammo of Mig and alclad Paints. Changed it up and used the ammo of Mig Matt varnish, went on very smooth, good coverage and it seems hard wearing. I have however glued the crotch area as its the weak spot of the kit. Since I have no plans to put it in waverider mode there is no problem. Theres a couple of seem lines to do but as one is the head I'm not confident enough yet to tackle this without the fear of totally fuckin it up. Besides that feedback always appreciated especially constructive criticism. Thanks guys!

Q & A / Sleeves version
« on: March 10, 2017, 08:33:07 PM »
Hi guys

I'm hoping to do a sleeves version of a Zaku II 2.0. I'm not that great at scratch building and I'm wondering if there is any 3rd party option set? I would even consider resin or if someone had the 1/144 kyshatriya and able to do a resin cast of the chest and sleeves? Any advice or options appreciated.

Online Retailers / Local P Bandai seller

Hi guys just wanted to give a heads up. I just picked up my first P Bandai kit today. Yep I picked it up. It was sold to me by a guy who is importing kits from China and his prices to me seem the best around, still with some P Bandai mark up admittedly. He can get them all and has a great selection in stock. He can also get mechanicore, kodobucia, resin and other 3rd party. I would like to point out he won't get daban or GAO GAO as they are straight bootleg and he doesn't agree with it. He's a nice guy trying to support the hobby while making a few quid if he can.

Any way hope this helps someone out I know I've a few kits I'll be getting off him. or hobby front line on the facetube. He's in the process of updating his web page and has only some of his stock up at the moment but don't hesitate to ask if there's something you'd like he will no doubt either have it or can get it.

Q & A / Mg zaku power tubezzz
« on: February 24, 2017, 12:45:16 PM »
Need help.

I got the detail up metal power tubes for the mg zaku 2. I can't figure out how to attach/ insert the pins into the springs to mount the them. I've tried stretching out the ends of the springs with a dowel to plug the pins in but the won't stretch. Any ideas folks? Also will I need to use an metal specific primer or will ump poly or allclad primer do the trick?? Ahh so frustrating waited over a month and I can't get them to fit.

The leg tubezzz look great but I'm using the stock spring and attachments.

Well it's a quick paint and assemble. It's another fantastic kit with no visible seem lines and detail galore. Made a couple of mistakes the biggest of which is the panel lines. I was trying a new technique and balls it up in some places. Still I'm happy with it and as its my first time using lacquers only on a build the paint is smooth. Most happy with the sheild the colours look great and I'm very happy with the metallics on the crests. Anyway have a gawp and pass on some constructive feedback please.

Oh and if you haven't gotten and re 100 kit yet. Why not go buy one, I'll wait. No seriously go!!!!

No I haven't painted the gun yet it's the only thing with a visible seem line

Buying / Selling Model Supplies / Paints
« on: January 12, 2017, 07:44:58 PM »
Not sure if this is interesting for everyone but not to long ago there was a thread about 2k paints. I just got 1.5 litres 2k high gloss with a litre of thinner on the eBay for under 20 quid. The same seller has Matt and satin finish 2k for the same.also I know Gundam UK mentioned it on his channel about Mr color lacquers.cant seem to find them anywhere else. I picked up some from eModels only 2 quid a pot. Anybody else got a good UK based paint supplier. I'm in Ireland and can only get stuff from the UK because of how model paints have taken down so many planes.

Hi all
Well I managed to finish off my first custom kit. The re 100 is a fantastic kit to work with, a little less with articulation but a good solid build. I have tried a few new techniques and products with various success that will be obvious from the pics. Sorry about the picture quality I have to set up my DSLR which is a far as I need to charge batteries and set up a light box blah blah blah, when I get around to it I'll post some more or if anybody would like to see any part in particular I'll shoot that.

Anyway cheers for looking and hope I get back some constructive feedback so I can improve for my next build.

Q & A / Resin kits
« on: November 25, 2016, 01:40:47 AM »
I'm looking into getting my first resin kit. I'd like to have a Kshatriya in my collection and resin is the only way I can see to get it in 100 scale. I'm wondering what are the pitfalls of resin. I understand  that resin can have better detail. Can someone explain how to assemble a kit and what extra work is involved? Will I need different tools? Has anyone made the Kshatriya resin kit like the e2046 or mersa?

Q & A / Camo painting
« on: October 28, 2016, 08:56:47 PM »
Trying to paint a suit in camo. I've tried light tones on top of dark and vice versa. Both times it looks like ass. I'm looking to get a quad tone NATO camo. Any tips welcome. Thanks in advance.

Well this arrived via my lovely postman today

Now I can start seriously planning. If you remember I'm a noob to the gunpla seen and this will be kit 5..... So I'm hoping as I post that you will all feel free to give me pointers along the way.  this will be only my second kit using an airbrush. This forum seems to have good people with a vast array of experience which I hope to learn from. I've thick skin so don't pull any punches. I'm waiting on another older kit for parts and some decals from Samuel decal. I expect to be starting in earnest in about 2 weeks ish but will do a dry fit before then. So first question, I'm looking to assemble then disassemble a couple of times am i right to say that if I trim the pegs at 45 degrees it should make it easier????

Saw this and thought I'd post. It's the Japanese round of gunpla builders world cup. Some really nice work and some not so brilliant..... Can someone explain the shop based competition as that's where the not so brilliant kits are. Also does anyone know if there's similar galleries for the other regions?

Well this is only my second kit and not very good pics of it either. I will post more pics when I can get set up to take some with my Slr. So it's not cannon colours and either hand painted or rattle cans. As some will notice I lost/ forgot to remove from the runner, the vulcans on the head but in my defense they are tiny. I think! Interested in some constructive criticism please. There's no weathering and yes I know about the silver on the black parts I got over excited and assembled before the paint had fully cured. You live and you learn.....

Q & A / Mr. Hobby buffable metallics
« on: September 26, 2016, 08:51:32 PM »
Just got myself a budget airbrush and having some fun with it. Only I've run into a snag. When I used to hand paint the Mr. Hobby metallics I could buff them up to a great finsh, this was through trial and error( yea don't gloss coat before you try to buff, what was I thinking?)now with the airbrush it does gloss up but I don't get the metallic gloss I used to get. Any ideas????? Tried low pressure and high. I haven't thinned them down as it seems to go through my 0.3 mm no problem.
