Showcase / MG Zeta Plus S1
« Last post by WarMachine395 on April 08, 2018, 01:28:27 AM »
So this is my MG Zeta Plus S1, I built this for the Gunpla Builder's Association 2018 Cannon Fodder Contest. So the theme was quite naturally to build a grunt or mass production suit, I settled on building the MG Zeta Plus A1 Test Colours literally because it was the only MP suit that I hadn't snapped yet. For my build, I have a serious case of MG GM Sniper II envy so i tried to style it after that, with a few changes to make it fit the Zeta Plus a little better and using some spare bits from the S-Gundam.

I've added front skirts and new side skirts since I didn't particularly like the beam rifle side skirts from before. I've changed up the main camera and v-fin assembly on the Zeta Plus. I've been tweaked the tail fin as well, I've cut a gap and added some movable fins on the tail.

Removed the seam lines on the rifle. The binders I've added a few extra wing attachments with laptop screws and magnets and a bit of 90 deg angled pla-plate to keep it up right.

Specifically scratch built a shield since the nose cone doesn't make sense when it doesn't transform and I wanted to bulk up the rifle a little bit too, because it feels a little 2 dimensional. I've added a guard over the hand.

So I've added some pla plate to the chest transformation parts so the head won't move down anymore. Removed the seam line across the side of the chest and then pla plated for good measure.

Removed the seam lines from the head and the face plate and added some fins to the head to give it a more aggressive look. Scribed some new lines mostly Danmo along the edges and pla-plated the shoulders. Removed the seam from the funny leg vents. Replaced the hoses on the backs of the legs with pistons.

For paint I used Vallejo Signal Blue, Sky Blue, Ferrari Red, Gunmetal Grey, Duraluminium, Jet Exhaust, Dark Grey Blue, and Medium Blue, and for the display base I used Vallejo Dark Grey, and Sea Grey.

Here is my HGUC RGM-79 ĎGMí.  The only custom work Iíve done is make a little camera sensor for the back of the head out of the spare clear blue plastic from the runner.  I also used some of Bandaiís builder hands to replace the stock closed fists.

As far as paint goes, I really fell in love with that minty green color the kit is molded in. Most GM builds I see opt for a light grey instead of this color, so I really wanted to use it in some way. The dark grey colors are actually a dark purple with the blueish grey highlighting. I used Photoshop to mock up the colors for the kit, because I really wanted to go bold, and being able to get a preview before committing to a color scheme was a really valuable asset. A goal I had was to make the shading more pronounced as my previous two kits had shading that I was really happy with in person, but once the pictures were snapped, a lot of that shading was lost.

This is also my first attempt at weathering.  I did some chipping on the feet, and then I did a few passes of oil filters and streaking. My goal was to be really subtle and err toward too little rather than too much, but there are some areas where I feel like I was too heavy handed. Iím glad I tried some new things, and Iím exciting to keep experimenting with weathering.

Lastly, I just want to thank this whole community for the constant inspiration, instruction, and positivity that everyone has been fostering by generously using their own time help others grow in this hobby!

Thanks!

It's been over a month (a very busy month) and I keep forgetting to post my WIP pictures, so this is gonna be a big dump of photos.

Anyway I've got a bunch of mods that I was working on before I started painting, removed the seam lines from the head and the face plate. Scribed some new lines mostly Danmo along the edges and pla-plated the shoulders. Removed the seam from the funny leg vents. Replaced the hoses on the backs of the legs with pistons.

And from there I've started and finished painting, I want to do some weathering and a very basic display base along with a flat coat.

Showcase / 1/100 MG Zeta 2.0 Amuro blue
« Last post by shiro11 on March 10, 2018, 06:29:37 PM »
Possibly my last commission, this is another Zeta 2.0 but in a blue version of the Amuro Zeta design.

Surprisingly good build considering how many large 3rd party decals I used on this. There were decal tears but they weren't that common and I was prepared for them this time. One unfortunate thing did happen though, someone stole the package containing the kit after it was delivered at my clients home. He's trying to get reimbursed by USPS since it was priority mail but it's slow going.

Showcase / 1/100 Vent Saviour Gundam

My commissions are starting to end and I will probably stop them entirely by the fall, but until then here is the latest one.

A commission of an old NG 1/100 SEED Destiny kit, the Vent Saviour.
Was nice to do a kit as basic as this even though that meant horrible seams. The client wanted just a basic build so I opted to leave the worst seamlines alone and focus only on the ones that I could easily modify.
