Random Chats / Re: GBWC 2017, your thoughts?
« Last post by MrAdam5 on December 21, 2017, 02:55:31 AM »
This is the first year I've ever remotely even glanced at the GBWC (Mostly because of Tim and Henry), and the one thing that I kept having go though my head was "how are they even judging this stuff?" Of the few entries I looked at, they varied from the completely abstract to super rigid in-universe battle scenes. I just couldn't wrap my head around how this whole thing worked and just kinda admired all the entries.

So, as a "new comer" to this, categories would make total sense. Every local competition I visited this year had categories for everything. Different scales, tanks, planes, si-fi, figures, and so on. Categories in the GBWC seems like the natural step it should take. Will it? I feel like it will need to become even more mainstream for Bandai to care, unfortunately. But they do surprise us from time-to-time.

Some interesting views about the comp and interesting video from Tim, i no expert but the need for categories seem obvious to me just from looking at the three winner from this years winners,  the first two are very different from the 3rd place but my favorite is the Junior Course 2nd Runner Up.

Works in Progress / MG GM Sniper II
« Last post by MrAdam5 on December 19, 2017, 01:27:22 AM »
Thought I'd start sharing my WIP for the GM Sniper II. This was my prize from the GM/Zaku contest (thanks again!).
So far, just kind of going for a more detailed look. What really kicked this project off was the HAF Series (3rd-Party) rifles I found, and will be using one of them with this kit.

Began attempting some scribing, just on the large blank spaces. After some trial and error, it turned out okay.

Tried some more scribing on the knees, not successful. Decided to plate some detail on instead.

Added a nifty second camera to the head visor.

And the gun, already mostly painted. As well as scratch-building a shoulder mount and energy tank (very rough atm).

Painting / Re: The humble brush!

How would you go about doing pre-shading and post-shading with just hand brushes and spray cans? An airbrush, compressor, and spray booth are beyond what I can afford right now on top of the issue of space for a spray booth.

You might want to try one of the blending techniques mentioned above, I also like to use very thinned colored painted and blend then from panel lined out into the center or outer edge of a part I want to shade a slightly different colour.

have a look at this build, I air brushed the base colours but all the weathering and shading is done using washes and a normal size 2 brush, its more obvious on the grey leg I think.
