HG RB-79 Custom Ball twin set
« on: February 23, 2017, 07:02:50 AM »
After building The MG ball Ver. Ka I wanted another quick project. I got the Idea for a team of veteran Ball pilots, perhaps given a bit too much freedom to customize there Pods.

For the first one I decided to take it in an odd direction and build a melee specialist.
Rebuilt the backpack reasoning a melee specialist would need more thrust and maneuverability.

I also decided both options for weapons felt to big for a melee specialized pod so I instead cut down the cannon mount and added this pistol from a build fighter kit I ad laying around.

as the final modification I decided A Ball lacked armor so I added a GM's shield.

Next is the simpler of the two, A ranged specialist.
Essentially I built a Ball with the fire power of three. And added an extra engine from a guntank early type.

I decided to not use the arms and add well more guns, still working on fitting these into the arm mounts.

Hehe I quite like the idea of a melee ball though I can't help but picture it with a round shield like a tallgeese or maybe one scavenged from a Gyan to stick with the UC cannon.

Thanks. A round shield would be good, I just don't have one at the moment.  Main problem at the moment is deciding on a paint scheme.

Decided to finish this project up and started with some weathering for the melee one.

So I got ambitious and got the base painting done on the melee one. Detail and top coat next.

Ok 99% done. Just have a bit of weathering and final top coat on the ranged unit. The scoring on the Melee unit might be a tad shiny, might need to knock it down a bit.

Finished up the weathering and decided to add a pilot to the ranged unit as it's rather visible. Just a simple quick paint up for the pilot.

Super fun idea! not enough balls get built in general so some custom ones are always cool :D
When it asks, "Are you a robot?"
Is "I wish" an acceptable answer?

Thanks. Was going to use them in a diorama but I abandoned that idea. And after building the MG ver. Ka I figured it would be another quick-ish project to hone some skills on.  Just finished these and got the pictures taken.

I really like the concept of this build. I don't think there are enough custommball designs out there.
