Workspace Show Off
« on: March 28, 2017, 03:26:47 AM »
So after about 4 years of building and painting out of a plastic bin, I finally have a dedicated work space. I don't get an entire room for the hobby like most of you, so I built a cabinet that converts into a good sized desk in our guest room. I am able to keep all my gunpla stuff in there, and it hides everything neatly when a guest is staying over, or for when my significant other is in a "you're spending too much time on your hobby again" mood. Here are some pics of my set up:

The cabinet main door flips down and turns into a table. A2 and A3 cutting mats were screwed into the desk side by side.

The top shelf will be a dedicated drying rack, the bottom cubby is for the compressor and will be soundproofed...

on the underside of the top shelf, I attached a powerstrip with individual switches for lights, compressor and spraybooth. A 2nd regulator/water trap was mounted to the middle shelf for easy access, details are here: http://otakuonabudget.blogspot.jp/2017/03/desk-mounted-regulator-setup.html

I made a collapsible spraybooth. You can look up the details here: http://otakuonabudget.blogspot.jp/2017/03/diy-compact-spraybooth.html

I purchased some Keter cantilever toolboxes to organize my tools and stuff for easy access to everything when I'm working.

I use an Ikea dish drying rack for holding runners while snap fitting. It folds flat for storage as well.

More details about the space can be seen in my blog posts here:

I have everything set up so I can maximize desk space for whatever I'm doing at the moment. I'm determined to improve building efficiency in my small space, so please share your workspaces and tool hacks here too!

yes it sure beats digging through a stack of runners that keep catching on each other! I've been looking everywhere for a dish rack with just enough spacing for the runners to stay upright and didn't think to check IKEA until recently lol.
