Weapons being modified or added to Zaku build.
Gatling gun still being modified (gun from MG Heavy Arms)

Zaku machine gun modified (barrel lengthened) and extra ammo barrel made (resin - made from mold).
Also scope modified -made from plastic tube for a more updated look.

Where did you get the sniper rifle?

Photo Etch parts added to bottom of Zaku foot thrusters.

Testing Zaku Pink LED mono eye and 2 blue flickering LED for back thrusters with 3v watch battery.
Had to cut thruster tabs and drill out holes to 3mm drilled.
3mm LEDs tab/lip on back of LEDs shaved with 230 grit sand paper then 400 grit to 3mm to fit in holes.

Mini connector being set up to Power Zaku Mono eye and back thrusters.
Setting it up so if he is connected to the base (still work in progress) he can be powered by 2AA battery - 3v
So his eye and thrusters will light up.
And can be disconnected from the base and still be pose-able without power. But can be reconnected to base for power.
* All electrical parts used bought from sellers on Ebay (price for items reasonable to low prices). Left info at Online Retailer topic.

Zaku with mini-connector attached at base near connector for the base, so when you plug it into the base connector I can hide the wiring along the base connector rod. Will not be adding the silver part in the pic above in the build (limited space with wires in the build) Back pack w/ thrusters fits and stays on the Zaku without this piece.

All lights working. Had to run magnetic wires up waist to body under the outer armor and soldered together.

Zaku dis-connected from the mini-connector ans base connector piece. Still working on base with 2AA battery holder and Dip switch on/off.

LED Pink mono eye working fine w/ mini-connector.

2 flickering Blue LED working on back for thrusters also working.

Weapons and thruster bells painted, may repaint inside of bells a different color.

Waiting on different weapons kit and decals (mail) before I can go any further on the build.

Decal set I wanted is back-ordered, so I'm going to have to improvise.
Luckily I had a Zaku decal set and a couple of other decal set to make up a decal scheme.

Satellite decal set: red, white, black (HLJ.com - $2.65 a set)
Gundam Zaku set - $3.95

Paint Color I used: Wanted a custom color. - main colors used.

Trim - Mr Hobby - 116 black gray
Body and Armor - Mr Hobby 322 cyanne blue
Mr Metallic GX 204 metal blue
Mr Metallic GX 216 dark blue

Weapons - Testors: Model Master semi-gloss black

Then clear coated with Testor gloss coat to apply decal and panel lined with Vallejo black wash.

Studio lights I bought on Ebay $21.95 to take better pic of Zaku.
Because of the 3 different blue colors and the metallic blue I used.
Under normal light or lights from my camera flash it didn't show up very good.

I taped rice paper to the front of the LED lamps and it soften the light output.
I taped it to the front of the lamps to give it some space from the LED bulbs (instead of unscrewing the cap and placing it there) because the LED bulbs gets hot very quickly. And rice paper, since it's paper can brown from heat or burn.
Much better pictures.

Working on the Zaku mono-eye shield.
Items used:
Tamiya - polish compound course, fine, finish
Tamiya - smoke tint paint
Pledge floor care - (use to called Future)

Before using polish compound.

Polished compound used to remove scratches and smooth out any imperfections.

After using polish compound.

Top 1/3 of Zaku mono-eye tinted with Tamiya Smoke spray paint decanted for use in air brush.
Wanted it to look like a automobile wind shield.

Mono-eye glass tipped into Pledge floor care to give it a crystal clear look.

Zaku eye completed - After polishing, spray tint, dipped in Pledge.

Mini-connector that I added to the base of the Zaku.
When you plug it in to the base, you can turn it on to light up the eye and thrusters.
Dis-connect it the Zaku will still be pose-able and easy to reconnect to the base.

Making a custom base.

Using a Mayonnaise lid, it was about the size I needed. I am trying to make it look like the Zaku is landing on an asteroid or planet.

I attacked a clear 8mm pipe (Tamiya) to the base. It will allow the Zaku to connect to the base with the pin connector piece that came with the kit. I used resin to connect the pipe to the base. But remember to rough up the surface with 200 grit sand paper to give the resin a rough surface to bond to.

Testing the connector.

Tools and supplies used to wire power to light up the Zaku.

Drilled small hole in pipe to run wires down to the base for power.

All wires solder and tested under the base.

Taped up wire and any other items I did not want painted. Then painted with semi-gloss black.

Hot glued DIP switch (on/off) in place, at back of base.

Hot glued all wires in place and battery holder and Dip switch.

Almost done with this project. Just need to create an asteroid surface on the base.

Just finishing up the base. Waiting for plaster to dry then airbrush a dark eerie dark gray for asteroid look.
